Married bank cashier and amateur painter Christopher Cross comes to the aid of a young temptress, Kitty March, whose being attacked by a man on the street corner late one night. In a moment of weakness, Chris begins to court Kitty, unknowingly getting himself entangled in a sinister game of seduction and embezzlement.
