Young couple Madeleine and Neil are persuaded by their acquaintance Monsieur Beaumont to get married on his Haitian plantation. Beaumont attempts to convince the beautiful Madeleine to run away with him but it is too late. Beaumont turns to the devious witch doctor, Legendre, for help. After using Legendre's potion on Madeleine to fake her death and ultimately turn her into a zombie, Beaumont is unhappy with the results. Meanwhile, grieving 'widower' Neil is convinced by a local priest that Madeleine may still be alive and searches for her.
